The information in this workshop comes from the Digital Citizenship Conference 2008 at UM-Columbia in Columbia, MO. The keynote speaker was David Warlick, whose 2Cents Worth blog I follow closely.

Welcome to the Classroom Web Pages with blogs Workshop. This is the home page for our workshop today. There are several pages we will be using:

Agenda - This is what we will be covering during this workshop. It includes links to sites we will be visiting and videos that we will be watching. You can take notes directly onto the page (yes, really!) by clicking Easy Edit. This is interactive and collaborative effort that will end up being better than any one person's set of notes. At the end of the workshop you will not only have your notes, but everyone else's too, all in one place. You can even ask questions and discuss the notes in the Discussion Forum.

Take Away Reflection - This is another interactive component of this workshop. At the end of the workshop, reflect on what you have learned. What will you "take away" from the workshop?

Our Classroom Web Pages - We want to see what you have done. Copy the Name, address link, and what the site is about onto this page. We can then visit your site and get ideas for our own site.

Social Bookmarking

Welcome to the social bookmarking page. WikiPedia defines social bookmarking as “a way for internet users to store, classify, share and search Internet bookmarks. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_bookmarking).

Social bookmarking has three advantages over the bookmarks on your browser:

Ubiquitous Access: Users can access their saved bookmarks from ANY computer connected to the Internet: In the classroom, in the library, in the computer lab, and at home.
More Powerful Organizational Options: When a website is saved as a bookmark, users can also assign various keywords as “tags” to the bookmark to facilitate organization and later location of that website by themselves as well others using the same network of social bookmarks.
Powerful Possibilities for Discovery and Location: Google is a fantastic search tool, but millions of search results can be overwhelming. Some social bookmarking tools permit users to search and explore the saved website favorites of other users and thereby benefit from the time they have spent both locating and organizing (via “tags”) those websites. Social bookmarking allows people to directly tap into the “knowledge residing in the network” which thousands of others have created together as they find, tag, and save worthwhile websites online.
